News: Arborist at GLC, Steamposium, & a bit about the redwoods

The illustrious Braden Duncan installing Arborist at
Georgetown Liquor Company in Seattle
Back from a very inspirational vacation & ready to share some news! Here's the headlines:

Short news post this week because I have a lot to catch up on, but you can follow me at the links on the right side of the page.

Arborist up at Georgetown Liquor Co
The opening reception for Arborist will be this Saturday, September 12th at 6pm. I'll be hanging around a bit during that time (probably around 7-ish for an hour or so, then hopefully going to look at the rest of the art), if you want to say hey, buy me a drink or talk to me about the work itself. If you're unsure as to whether you want to see the show in person (yes, it's a 21+ venue, sorry kiddos), here's the blog I wrote about Arborist that will give you a better idea of why it's so important.

Steamposium September 26 & 27th
Actually, it probably starts on that Friday, cuz it's a con, and cons always start on Friday nights. Check out the website for more details, and be assured that I'll be making lots of pretty things for you to buy in Artist Alley.

The Gift of the Redwoods
As we drove the Avenue of the Giants in Humbolt Redwood State Park, the trees dropped bits of themselves into El Calibre via the open sunroof. Instead of brushing them out of the car, I decided that I was being given permission to take these bits of trees home to make paper with them. So, that's what I'll be doing as soon as I get the opportunity.

Spending time in that gigantic forest of giganticness was awe-inspiring to say the least. I took a ton of reference photos, & was very pleased at how these trees seemed to embody a lot of the design I've been painting in the Arborist series. So many trees looked like those I've already painted, but more importantly there were trees that still needed to be painted. It was glorious beyond my ability to describe.
This tree, for example, needed to be
painted
So while nature is vicious & will devour you without a second thought, it's also pretty fucking cool.
